THE relentless onslaught on the Tavistock Snooker League from Tavy A this season continued unabated with another convincing win against Conservative Z.

Jankowski for Con Z team took an early lead against Evans but failed to maintain the pressure letting Evans ease his way back into the game and gain a close victory for his team. Anderson (senior) for Tavy A took full advantage of a below par Hodge with a ’run away’ win, building a remarkable 94-13 score line in the process.

Yet again it took the formidable Mayors for Con Z team to restore some semblance of order to his team with his brand of steady and thoughtful game play, and in a closely fought frame emerged the winner to keep the score line respectable.

Flack of Con Z had no such luck against Dent who was in fine fettle and took full advantage of a somewhat lacklustre performance from Flack notching up a commendable 78 and awarding his team the victory.

To rub salt in the wound Hicks for Tavy A did not ease the pressure with a fine performance including a 27 break, against the normally reliable Fitzsimmons to give his team another comfortable victory and pile more pressure on the chasing pack.

Conservative A got their act together at last with a maximum 5-0 over Con B. Evans, Bell and Wiles secured the match for Con A, including a 22 break for Evans and a 20 from Wiles. Further wins for Carruthers and Babb took the Con A’s to their first maximum five for some time, thus keeping them in touch with the top of the table chasing pack.

Golf B had a torrid time at the hands of West Devon A, who with another maximum five held on to second spot in the league.

Brooks for WD A with 48 and 29 breaks was superb, backed up by a comfortable win from Kevin Rich, which soon had WD A two up.

Golf B’s Treble gave Heathman a run for his money before succumbing, but a good win for Taylor made it four for West Devon. New Golf player Brockington put up a good show but it was ‘match player’ Morris that secured it for WD A.

West Devon B nearly halted Golf A’s recent run of good form, only going down in the last frame of five.

Whitley put Golf B one up despite stout resistance from Blewitt taking him to the black ball. Roger Rich pulled WD B level only for Turnbull to put Golf B in front again after prising out Hoare in a close one.

All level again next frame with Toland playing the game of his career to draw WD B level with a win over Thewlis. The decider though was not close with Golf B’s Ruth castigating John Rich with a 62-8 ‘right royal drubbing’.

West Devon C did their cause near the foot of the table no harm at all with a fine win over the inconsistent West Devon D.

The damage was done by Shrimpton (senior), Williams and Elliott who were in fine fettle to take WD C three-up with two to play. A late damage limitation exercise for the D team then ensued with Shrimpton (junior) and Ward taking the last two frames to save some of the WD D team’s blushes.
