TAVISTOCK Swimming Club sent a team of six to the Devon County Seniors and Masters Championships at Tiverton. Between them they had a successful day, achieving a total of 13 gold, nine silver and four bronze medals. In the seniors section (17-18 age group) Hattz Edwards had first places in the 100m breaststroke, 100m freestyle and 200m freestyle – all with personal best times. She also came third in the 50m fly, again in a personal best time. In the same group Izzy Teague took gold in the 100m fly, with second places in the 50m and 100m freestyle. Sophie Anderson won gold in the 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle, coming second in the 50m fly and taking the bronze in the 50m breaststroke. For the masters Yvonne Carpenter-Warren won gold in the 50m and 100m breaststroke, silver in 50m fly and 50m freestyle and came third in the 50m backstroke. Cameron Carpenter-Warren won silver medals in the 50m fly, 50m breaststroke, 50m backstroke and 100m individual medley and took bronze in the 50m freestyle. Chris Anderson won gold medals in all five of his events — the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle, and the 50m and 100m backstroke. All the swimmers are trained by TSC head coach James Lake at the town's Meadowlands swimming pool, home of the club for the last 24 years. The club will be sending a large team of around 50 swimmers of all ages to represent Tavistock at the Plymouth City Swimming Championships taking place at the Life Centre over the first two weekends in October – there will also be teams representing Tavistock at open meets throughout the South West during the autumn, and at the National Arena League where the club is well placed in division two. As the season reaches its peak, the club will be sending swimmers to the South West Regional Championships in December and masters swimmers will be at the National Masters Championships in Sheffield.
