ON Saturday at Okehampton Golf Club in glorious sunshine a large field took part in Club Championship Day. After 36 holes in unusually high temperatures the eventual winner with a terrific gross score of 141 (73+68) was Ian Moore. In second place after count back was Johnny Rattenbury with 145 (73+72) and Del Owen was third also with 145. The winner of the Hutchings Cup for best nett score of the day with a superb 127 (gross 151) was Nick Godfrey. The ladies had another successful month in Devon County Competitions. The team of Lin Atkinson, Cherry James, Marcia Jones and Penny Deakin won the Knowle Shield at the Vets competition at Woodbury with Penny winning the individual division one prize and Cherry the Captain's prize. The County Bronze meeting at Staddon Heights saw Janice Thwaites winning the Upper Bronze trophy with 33 points and Maureen Willcocks coming in fourth and also achieving the only two in the whole competition. n Okehampton Golf Club is celebrating the opening of their new indoor practice facility on the evening of Thursday, July 10 from 7pm. Everyone is welcome to come along and see the new Golf Simulator in action. This is a great opportunity, says the club, for golfers and non-golfers of all ages to come along and have some fun.
