BERE Alston Trekkers (BATs) took part in two events this weekend.
On another bright, but cold, Sunday morning 12 BATs made the short trip to Gulworthy to take part in Run Venture’s Rollercoaster held at Tamar Trails.
The Rollercoaster offers five hills in five miles on tracks around the Tamar Trials which offers fantastic views around the Tamar Valley. The event is one of the few that also caters for cannicross (runners assisted – or hindered – by their dog) which Paul Ashton with Fruitloop and Sam Harte-Latremouille took part in accompanied by a friend and her dog. The remaining BATs — Jim Medhurst, Tanya Argue, Lisa Birch, Debbie Ashton, Shaun and Natasha Hingston, Mary Sargeant, Hazel Bickley and Hilary and Martin Head – took part in the ‘all runners’ class. BATs Paul Martin ran as tail runner and Heather French assisted as a marshal. Results were unavailable as the Times went to press.
Meanwhile on Sunday, northern BAT Andy Cowden took part in the Wilmslow 10k which is a fast flat course on closed roads, starting in the centre of Wilmslow heading out in a scenic loop through the countryside.
A special guest in the race was GB athlete Eilish McColgan who unsurprisingly won the female race and eighth place overall finishing in 32.30. Andy finished in in a time of 47.32 achieving a course personal best by more than a minute.
