KYLE Abbot, Lewdown Cricket Club's overseas player in 2006, has made his international test debut for South Africa in their recent series with Pakistan.

The 25 year-old made an astonishing start to his international careers with bowling figures of 7-29 in Pakistan's first innings and 2-39 in the second, for match ones of 9-68 - the third best ever bowling figures by a South African on his test debut.

Kyle has also been selected for the South African one day and T20 squads. During his spell with Lewdown, Kyle scored more than 800 runs and took 55 wickets and played in more cricket grounds in West Devon.

This season Lewdown CC are looking forward to the arrival of his fellow countryman Marco Marais, and hope he is able to follow in Kyle's footsteps!

Lewdown now has three clubs in the Devon League playing on Saturdays and another team playing in the Tamar League on Sundays, which will provide an excellent stepping stone for young players from youth to senior cricket.

The club are pleased that Peter Lever, the former Lancashire and England fast bowler, is the head coach.
