Carlsberg Souh West Peninsula division one east

Galmpton United 2

Tavistock AFC 2

THE Lambs put in a sound performance in this game, between two clubs fancied to be in this season's title race. Both teams were looking to get the advantage in this enthralling encounter.

It was the visitors that got off to the better start, playing some fine football in the opening quarter of the game and deservedly took the lead in the 15th minute when a looping shot from Stuart Clark beat home keeper Matt Congdon from 18 yards.

The Lambs almost increased their lead five minutes later but Congdon made a smart save.

The home team were now getting their game together and equalised in the 26th minute when a 20 yard shot from Liam Moseley hit the post before the ball rebounded kindly into the path of Matt Barkwell, who fired the ball home from 12 yards.

The home team were now having a good spell and the Lambs' defence was being asked more questions, but just as it looked as though the visitors would get to the interval on level terms, a neat passing outside the Tavistock penalty area resulted in a shot from Mark Newbould taking a wicked deflection off a defender, to give the visitors' keeper Walkey no chance of saving.

The Lambs made a fast start to the second half and were on level terms five minutes in, when Kelvin Fyneboy pivoted in the penalty area, before firing home a great shot to make it 2-2.

Back came Galmpton as they tried to restore their advantage, but with the Lambs having their share of the play the game made great entertainment for the supporters.

In the last ten minutes Galmpton put more and more pressure on the visitors' defence, and were unlucky when Alex Bayliss headed against the post. However, the Lambs defence was resolute and held firm to the end of the game to take a share of the points.

This was a good performance by Tavistock as it was really important that they did not lose to a team riding high in the league table. All the team put in a really good shift to get a deserved share of the points.

The team must continue to produce and improve on this form, in what will be challenging few weeks.

n This Saturday Tavistock AFC visit Alphington, kick-off 2.15 pm. Tavistock Reserves are at home to local rivals St Dominic in the East Cornwall premier league, kick-0ff 2.30 pm.
