THE Lambs put in a great performance at Mount Wise to take all three points from a team that had not lost in four matches.
The visitors fully deserved their victory to bounce back after losing their last fixture at home to Camelford. This win keeps them in the top six in the league.
With both Lambs strikers Ian Holmes unavailable and Jarryd Kelly's injury keeping him out of the starting line up, the team reverted to a 4-3-3 formation with Ian Rooke leading the attack and young Aaron Morthmore coming into the starting eleven in midfield.
The game got of to a fast start with both teams playing some good football; the Lambs had an early chance when Johnny Wyatt's through ball was just out of reach of Ian Rooke and was collected by the home keeper.
The home side then pressed forward and took the lead in the fifth minute when once again the Lambs defence was punished for poor marking from a corner kick. The quickly taken kick by Josh Simms found Shaun Middleton unmarked, and his bullet like header flashed past Andy Meeds into the net.
The Lambs continued to play attractive football on a difficult surface and almost equalised in the 15th minute when a Johnny Wyatt through ball split the home defence wide open, but Carlton Farnham was ruled off side.
Newquay thought they had doubled their lead when they had the ball in the net, but Simms was clearly yards off side.
After this scare the visitors were having more than a fair share of the play and as a Joe Carey cross found Dave Hallet, but his shot was well saved by Tom Blackler. This was followed in the 29th minute when Ian Rooke set up Carlton Farnham but he shot over the bar with the goal at his mercy.
Ian Rooke received a yellow card for a foul on the keeper when he was put through on goal by Farnham.
The Lambs deservedly levelled the scores six minutes before half time, after a penetrating run down the right by Carey, and his superb cross, was only palmed away by Blackler in the home goal and the ball fell to Johnny Wyatt who fired home from eight yards.
It was the Lambs that finished the first half the stronger looking very dangerous in attack.
The second half was equally as entertaining as the first with both sides going for the victory.
First it was Johnny Wyat who spurned an opportunity, slicing his shot wide of the target when he latched onto a great pass from Carlton Farnham.
Home goalkeeper Blackler was lucky to stay on the pitch, as he rushed out of his area to try and beat Carlton Farnham to the ball, and received a yellow card for the poor challenge. Then Ben Davies came to the visitors rescue in the 65th minute when he made a goal line clearance to deny the home side from taking the lead.
The visitors were now really coming on strong and they looked the much more likely to get the winner, and it was Johnny Wyatt who provided the telling blow, when Joe Carey found him with an inch perfect pass and he supplied the delightful finish, giving Blackler no chance of making a save.
In the 86th minute it looked as if Johnny Wyatt would complete his hat trick, but his shot which looked destined for the net was miraculously cleared of the line.
The home team gave it their final fling in the time added with referee playing nine minutes of added time but when the whistle came it could not deny the Lambs their fully deserved their victory.
Everyone in the team must be congratulated on their individual performances to achieve this great result. Aaron Northmore had a fine game in mid field, along with Hallett and Carey. The pace of Farnham and Wyatt caused the Newquay defence problems throughout while the back four of Davies, Robbins, Chitty and the outstanding Ahearn dealt well with a lively forward line.
n Both teams are without a fixture this Saturday.
On Wednesday, February 27 the Lambs are home to Helston in the quarter final of the League Cup, kick-off 7.30pm.
