Carlsberg South West Peninsula premier Tavistock AFC 1
Elburton Villa 3
A GOOD size crowd witnessed this evenly contested game last Friday night against Elburton Villa.
The scores were level 1-1 until the 84th minute but it was the visitors who sealed victory with two late goals. This was rough justice on the Lambs who had worked their socks off.
The game was played at a fast pace with both playing some attractive football. The Lambs took the lead in the eighth minute when Carlton Farnham's cross put in Ian Holmes who finished superbly, slotting the ball past the advancing Simon May in the Elburton goal.
Twelve minutes later the visitors levelled when they were awarded a free kick some 20 yards from the home goal. Former Lambs player Levi Landricombe bent the kick around the wall and into the far corner of the net. Both teams continued to play some fine football but the teams went in level at half time.
Chances fell to both sides in the second half, the best of these falling to Carlton Farnham in the 76th minute. A fine pass from Holmes released Farnham through the middle, his pace took him clear of two defenders, only to see his shot pass the advancing goalkeeper go inches wide of the target. In the 84th minute following a corner kick the ball was not cleared, a goalmouth scramble followed until the ball fell kindly to Mike Landricombe, who shot home from six yards to give the visitors the lead.
Within two minute the Lambs had the chance to level the scores when keeper Simon May took out Carlton Palmer in the penalty area.
To add to the Lambs' woes May dived low to his left to make a fine save to keep out Ian Holmes spot kick.
Shortly afterwards Levi Landricombe was sent off after being shown a second yellow card, both for dissent.
With the Lambs pushing forward for an equaliser they were short of numbers at the back when Ray Almond put in Ray Spear who cleverly lobed the advancing Andy Meeds in the last minute.
This was a much improved performance on the last game from Tavistock and were unlucky not to get at least a share of the points.
Manager Ian Southcott said: 'After two poor displays and going in to the game with a decimated squad the lads were fantastic and were left wondering how we lost the game.
'The game was very competitive but played in the right spirit, I just feel for our lads as they deserved something, but all credit to Elburton who are a decent side and were clinical in front of goal.
