THE Lambs move up to fourth position in league table after this comfortable win at Penzance.
The Penzance ground staff worked really hard to get this game on, and their efforts were rewarded as this was the only game played in the premier division. However the pitch was heavy and not conducive to good football.
The visitors dominated the opening quarter but failed to create any real cut chances in front of goal. Dave Hallett made a fine run down the right flank, his cross into the six yard box was only inches away from the on rushing Ian Rooke.
In the 24th minute Carlton Farnham beat two defenders on the left his pass found Ian Rooke but his shot was well saved by Williams in the home goal.
The home team could not be faulted for their effort and enthusiasm, they put in a real shift in the first half, but failed to cause the Lambs defence any real concerns. Penzance's first real attempt on goal came in the 35th minute when a shot from 20 yards was easily dealt with by Andy Meeds.
A minute later the Lambs produced a great passing working the ball through midfield finding Johnny Wyatt on the left, his penetrating cross found Ian Rooke who lifted the ball over the bar from 14 yards.
The Lambs who continually threatened the home goal finally broke the deadlock in the 38th minute when following another fluent move the ball found Carlton Farnham who blasted the ball home in the top corner of the net from 25 yards. The visitors failed to take another couple of half chances so they took a single goal lead into the interval.
After the interval the Lambs were even in more control a laid siege on the home goal. Ian Holmes and Rooke combined well, only for the later to slice his shot wide of the target when well placed.
Holmes was causing the home defence real problems with his pace and movement off the ball. Carlton Farnham produced another fine run down the left and his cross resulted in Ian Rookes fine effort just going over the angle of cross bar and post.
In the 58th minute Farnham beat two defenders and cut into the penalty area where he was upended and the referee had no option but to award a penalty kick. Ian Holmes converted the spot kick to make it 2-0 to the Lambs.
Any chance of the home team making a late fight back were effectively over in the 80th minute when substitute Chris Bullock was sent off for dissent.
Penzance keeper Williams pulled off a number of fine save to keep the score respectable but could do nothing to deny the impressive Holmes, who got the third in the 83rd minute, when he fired home from the edge of the penalty area.
Ben Davies completed the scoring in the 90th minute after a penetrating run which ended with him riffling the ball home from 22 yards.
This is the first time the Lambs have been in action for a month, due to waterlogged pitches causing cancellation of fixtures.
Overall the performance was reasonable but the team did look a bit rusty in front of goal.
Tavistock AFC first team against Bodmin on Saturday was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
n This Saturday the Lambs are at home to Cullompton Rangers with a 3pm kick-off.
