Carlsberg South West Peninsula premier Launceston 2 Tavistock AFC 0 THE Lambs produced another very poor performance at Pennygillam. The team lacked energy and effort and the home team could well have inflicted a much heavier defeat to the visitors, had they taken their chances. The Launceston keeper Dan Stevenson did not have to make one meaningful save during the whole of the 90 minutes — showing how Launceston controlled the game. The home team got off to a fast start and Tavistock keeper Dean Smith, returning after injury, had to make two great saves to deny the home team taking the lead. The home team continued to apply pressure as the Lambs were continually guilty of giving the ball away when they had possession. Launceston opened their account in the 17th minute, when a shot from Josh Robbins was blocked by a home defender, the ball fell to a Claret player, and the visitors were ripped apart by a fine counter attack; Lance Easton broke from the half way line, down the right flank, before crossing for the unmarked Paul Chuwen to fire home a low shot into the far corner of the goal. The Lambs huffed and puffed for the remainder of the first half, but could not produce any penetration to worry the home defence. The second was very similar to the first as it was the home team that was doing all the pressing. In the 50th minute Sam Scott saw his shot 25-yard pile driver brilliantly saved by Dean Smith. The home team doubled their lead in the 63rd minute due to a good passing move in the penalty area between Liam Tilley and Andrew Elcock, who played the ball back to Chuwen on the edge of the area; he shot low into the corner of the net. Smith was again called on to make some really good saves to deny Launceston the chance of increasing their lead, but they did end up comfortable winners, in what was a really disappointing performance by the Lambs. The only positive that came out of this game as far as the Lambs are concerned was the fine performance of Dean Smith on his return from injury. It was a completely lack lustre display by the team and things need to improve. The Lambs have now gone 21 games without a win under their belts, and with this standard of performance there is little to suggest that they will get anything out of their last two games. This defeat means the Lambs will end the season in one of the relegation positions, finishing next to bottom in the league table. Their only saving grace may be if Exmouth Town are successful in their application to be promoted to the Western League. There will be lots of difficult decisions to be made to ensure that the club moves forward and gets back to winning ways next season.
