Carlsberg South West Peninsula division one East Tavistock AFC 5 Alphington 2 THE Lambs followed up their fine win at Liverton with another convincing win over Alphington. The home team were made to work hard to overcome a young determined outfit, and it was not until the last quarter of the game that they sealed a well earned victory. The Lambs took just nine minutes to open the scoring when Kelvin Finboy out paced the visitors' centre half and coolly lobbed the advancing keeper. A corner kick by the visitors caused some concern in the Lambs' penalty area but the home team managed to clear the danger. It was the home team that almost increased their lead, but a powerful 25 yard shot from Stuart Clark whistled over the crossbar. Carlton Farnham then split the Alphington defence open with a great 40 yard crossfield pass that set Clark free; he lobbed the advancing goalkeeper, but the ball fell agonisingly the wrong side of the crossbar and nestled on top of the net. The Lambs were dominating the game at this stage and the visitors worked tirelessly to keep them at bay. In the 32nd minute another great passing move by the Lambs saw Kelly and Finboy combining well to set up Ollie Archer, but he shot over the bar when well placed. Ten minutes before the interval Alphington were awarded a free kick just outside the angle of the Lambs' penalty area. Skipper Gary Wills unleashed an unstoppable shot which curved into the far top corner of the net, giving Martin Piper in the home goal no chance of saving. It was Tavistock that stepped up the tempo at the start of the second half with Lee Rundle heading against the cross bar from a corner kick from Dave Hallett in the 49th minute. Four minutes later the home team deservedly regained the lead, when Kelvin Finboy scored his second of the match when he leaped high to head home another corner kick from the right. The Lambs were having so much possession of the ball at this stage they became a little complacent and paid the penalty when a long ball down the middle found the unmarked Kyle Howell, who took his chance well when he fired the ball past the advancing Piper to level the scores. On the hour after another terrific passing move by the Lambs the ball found Clark 23 yards from goal; he picked his spot and rifled home an unstoppable shot for the home team to take the lead. The Lambs continued to dominate and increased their lead in the 70th minute, when Clark and Farnham combined well, with the latter heading the ball across goal for Jarydd Kelly to head home. The home team made the game safe in the 81st minute when after good work by Finboy down the right, he advanced into the penalty area and pulled back to Carlton Farnham, who calmly slotted the ball low into the corner of the net. This was another good performance by the Lambs who played some real good entertaining quality football. Manager Kevin Hendy said: 'I am delighted to get back to back wins, and to win our first home game to put us at the top end of the table. We played some very good football in spells and created many chances throughout the game. Defensively I was a little disappointed with the goals we conceded, they were both preventable. All in all though three points was the most important thing, and we have a chance on Friday evening with another home game against Newton Abbot Spurs to go to the top of the league. I am hoping to bolster the squad with another quality attacking player who will hopefully be available for Friday night.'
