Thorgmorton League Cup

Wadebridge Town 1

Tavistock AFC 2

THE Lambs came through this difficult second round tie, against a team in division one west who have won all their league fixtures to date this season. The visitors had to fight all the way and the home team impressed with the quality of their play.

Wadebridge had the better of the first half and deservedly took the lead in the 25th minute when the Lambs conceded a goal from a set piece. A corner kick taken by Nick Dowling found Dan Jennings unmarked, and his powerful header found the net. The score remained at 1-0 at the interval, mainly due to some fine goal keeping by Andy Meeds, who made a tremendous save in the 41st minute to deny Liam Ames from scoring.

Early in the second half the Bridgers had a penalty appeal denied when Jennings appeared to be brought down in the penalty area. This stirred the Lambs into action and they began to put some pressure on the home defence. The Lambs equalised in the 53rd minute when Jamie Ahern headed home a free kick from eight yards out. Play was fairly even with both sides looking for a winner. It was the Lambs who took the lead in the 85th minute when substitute Ian Rooke scored with a fine header from a right wing cross.

The Bridgers piled on the pressure in the closing stages but they were foiled by some fine goal keeping by man of the match Andy Meeds.

The Lambs were not at their best, and the result could have gone either way, but with Meeds in superb form they managed to grind out the right result. The team will have to improve on this performance if they are to beat Liskeard in the next round.
