TAVISTOCK AFC put in another fine performance on Monday to clinch the division one East title, against a competitive Sidmouth outfit, which made for an entertaining final game of the season.
The game got off to a fast start with both teams playing some good football. The home team created the first real opportunity to open the scoring in the 15th minute, when Carlton Farnham made a fine run down the left; his cross was met by Dan Follett but his effort came back off the cross bar and was cleared to safety. Five minutes later a corner kick by Dave Hallett resulted in a Will Stringer looping header, which looked destined for the top corner of the net, brilliantly tipped against the bar by goalkeeper Ledger and cleared by full back Benton.
Sidmouth continued to play some good football but the home defence reduced them to long range shots; their only real threat came when they won the occasional corner kick, which the home defence dealt with admirably.
On the half hour the Lambs were awarded a free kick when Farnham was brought down, Dave Hallet's kick found the on rushing Chris Maskell but his fine diving header went inches wide of the post. Follett and Farnham combined well to open up the visitors' defence but Farnham dragged his shot wide of the target when well placed.
In the 40th minute Jack Crago produce another fine penetrating run down the right but his pass into the penalty area was cleared for a corner kick. Dave Hallett's corner kick produce a real goal mouth scramble but somehow the ball was cleared for another corner kick, which was dealt with by the Sidmouth defence.
Just before the interval the Lambs deservedly broke the deadlock when Dave Hallett produced another fine corner kick; Chris Maskell lost his marker in the penalty area, to produce a fine header that nestled in the far corner of the net.
The second half started with the home team continuing to dictate the play. A fine move from defence to attack found Jack Crago on the right; his great ball into the penalty area saw Josh Robins slice his shot wide of the target. Minutes later Crago had a header well saved by Ledger.
The visitors then probably had their best spell of the match and Martin Piper was called on to make a fine save from a long range shot from Double. In the 56th minute centre forward Boyland dragged his shot wide of the target.
This stirred the Lambs back into action and once again they got control of the game. On the hour the home team produce a classic move to double their lead, when Kelvin Fyneboy beat two defenders before delivering the perfect cross to the far post where Josh Robins thundered home an unstoppable header from 12 yards. Sidmouth tried to respond but Pitter shot over when well placed. Five minutes later the Lambs made the game safe when Dan Follett put a great ball that split open the visitors' defence and put Carlton Farnham in on goal; he calmly picked his spot and slotted the ball into the far corner to make it 3-0.
Sidmouth continued to try to break down the resilient home defence. They managed a shot in the 80th minute when Martin Piper made a fine save to deny Boyland from reducing the arrears.
The Lambs saw the remainder of the game out so the celebrations could begin. Although the team looked edgy at times with so much riding on the game, this was anther really good professional performance as they fully deserved their victory to become champions.
Tavistock AFC manager Kevin Hendy and his assistant Darren Stewart are to be congratulated on this great achievement, as their truly professional approach throughout has been absolutlely tremendous. The players have been a credit to the club and must take pride in their performances during a tough campaign. They have played some really eye catching football during the season, and fully deserve to be champions.

THE Lambs went into this game on Saturday knowing they had to win their final two games to have any chance of becoming champions.
The home team got off to a great start when they opened the scoring in the 7th minute. Carlton Farnham made a fine run down the right, got to the dead ball line and squared the ball back to the on rushing Sean Manley, who calmly slotted the ball home from twelve yards. Five minutes later the Lambs thought they had increased their advantage when Kelvin Fyneboy found Jack Crago, who finished with aplomb, but the assistant referee adjudged that he was off side. In the 17th minute the home team scored their second of the afternoon when Fyneboy and Williams inter changed passes; Williams, who was in a really good position to shoot, unselfishly passed the ball to Jack Crago who fired home from ten yards.
Plymstock were repeatedly put under pressure as the Lambs pressed forward and although they played some good football in the midfield area, they did not really trouble the home defence.
Former Lambs player Aaron Hulme worked tirelessly to try and cause the home defence some problems, but once again they were in mood to concede a goal.
Five minutes before the interval the Carlton Farnham increased the lead to three, when he curled in a perfect shot into the top corner following another fluent move by the home team.
The second half started with the Lambs continuing to dominate the game as Jordan Williams dragged his shot wide of the target when well placed. The home team then seemed to take their foot off the pedal and Plymstock began to get a foot hold in the game. In the 53rd minute Hulme dragged his shot wide of the target, once again the visitors build up play was good, but they never looked like breaking down a well marshalled Lambs defence. The nearest they came to scoring was when a fine 20 yard effort from Evans was tipped over the bar by Martin Piper in the home goal.
Fyneboy was unlucky when he broke clear; he lobbed the advancing keeper from 25 yards, but his effort went inches wide of the upright.
The Lambs made the game safe when Crago and substitute Lewis Edwards combined well to open up the Plymstock defence, with Edwards riffling the ball home from 18 yards. Plymstock continued to have a fair share of the play, with Aaron Hulme working tirelessly to try to break down the home defence.
Lewis Edwards then got his second of the game when he beat two defenders on the left; he cut into the penalty area before unleashing another unstoppable shot, to make it a convincing victory for the Lambs.
