WHITCHURCH Wayfarers recently played a match in honour of founding club member David Gordon, who sadly died during the winter.

Teams were arranged to reflect the family friendly nature of the club on a Dads v Lads basis, with David's son Tom playing for the elder of the two teams.

The Lads batted first but struggled to make headway. Billy Barriball launched a few boundaries before being comprehensively bowled by old timer Kerswill.

Ben Powell and Barney Megicks batted sensibly to set a platform for the youngsters. Powell had to retire on completing his half century, whilst Megicks continued to bat with maturity beyond his years.

Megicks was finally bowled by Credicott for 45, just shy of a maiden 50 in senior cricket.

Tom Gordon took two for and Credicott two for 11, as the Lads posted 186 for seven in their 40 overs.

The seniors reply was well measured. Tim Jackman (21), Tom Gordon (26) and Steve Hodge (26) setting the foundations for the run chase.

Mid innings the brakes were applied by Dan Towl and Billy Barriball (two for two), with only nine runs being scored in nine overs.

Adrian Towl reminded the lads of his class with four sixes and five fours on his way to a retirement at 50no.

It was left to Credicott to hit the winning runs, as the 'Dads' got home with seven overs to spare.

This was an excellent, family day and a great way to honour David Gordon. Plans are already underway to make this an annual event.
