Okehampton ladies third 3
Exe ladies fifth 1
THE Okehampton side comprised 'Back to Hockey' ladies, several junior players and a couple of experienced players to make up the numbers.
Oke were in attacking mood with forwards Sarah Bazeley and Larissa Goodger pushing the Exe defence backwards.
The sustained Oke attack was soon rewarded when Louise Watts tapped in the opening goal on the far post. An unfortunate hand injury to Oke forward Rachel Adams early in the game meant that Emily Rowlands had to play out of position as central attacker. Emily quickly adapted to this role, penetrating through the Exe players and was unlucky not to convert this pressure into a goal.
Oke's second goal came after a goal mouth scramble when Louise Watts slotted in her second.
Exe had some young fast forwards who were keen to attack. Melissa Penfield and Anna Luxton worked well together defending the left side of the pitch but eventually some slick passing from Exe saw them getting a goal back just before half time.
Oke's Molly Marvin dominated the midfield in the second half linking well with her mother Sarah at right wing to form a dangerous partnership. They forged ahead down the right side of the pitch and a perfectly placed hit from Molly across the circle found Louise Watts who made no mistake in getting her hat-trick.
Exe never stopped trying to attack and full back Lois Rowlands was forced to make several crucial tackles to keep Oke in the game.
The final whistle saw Oke gain a well deserved 3-1 victory.
