KELLY College swim squad had 34 swimmers representing them at the first weekend of the Devon County Swimming Championships held at Exe Valley Leisure Centre, Tiverton.
There were eight championships to be won and Kelly swimmers took half of these and there were plenty of personal best times and some school records broken.
Among the successes were: in year 9 Scarlett Harrison swam three personal best times and won a bronze medal in the 200m backstroke; in year 10 Jacob Staig and Archie Trevethan reached finals - Jacob the 200m backstroke and breaststroke and Archie the 200m breaststroke while Gabrielle Wardle swam to two personal bests; in year 11 Thomas Harrison was first in the 200m breaststroke and second in the 200m backstroke. Thomas Brew reached the finals of the 200m breaststroke and the 200m backstroke. In age 12 twins Cara and Jemma Layden both performed well in the 800m freestyle with Cara securing the silver medal and Jemma fourth. Cara took gold in 100m fly. Brittaney O'Reilly won gold in the 100m IM while Benjamin Staig had gold in the 200m backstroke.
In year 13 Elizabeth Watmore won silver in the 100m IM while in year 14 Leah Picillo won two gold medals, the 800m freestyle and the 100m fly. In the year 15 David Colley was Junior Champion in the 1500m freestyle, silver in the 100m breaststroke and 200m backstroke and gold in the 200m breaststroke. Molly Redford won the 800m Freestyle and the 100m IM. Molly was also junior champion in both these events.
In year 16 George Humphrey won the Mens 200m breaststroke final and and was also junior champion while in year 17 Russell Oliver had four personal bests.
Those competing during the weekend were: Scarlett Harrison, Jacob Staig, Archie Trevethan, Gabrielle Wardle, Thomas Harrison, Thomas Brew, Nathan Linden, Cara Layden, Jemma Layden, Victoria Moore, Brittaney O'Reilly, Ben Staig, Sian Temple, Christy Gold, Oakley Carnell, Millie Murdoch, Charlie Tod, Will Luckham-Down, Harry Wardle, Beth Watmore, Jack Pearson, Megan Benton, Leah Picillo, Toby Stanyer, David Colley, Naomi Copperwait, Sophie Hastings, Molly Redford, Matthew Courtis, George Humphrey, Oliver Willis, Russell Oliver, Kathy Larcombe and Chelsey Taylor.
Charlie Tod, Nathan Linden and Will Luckham-Down (above) from Kelly College were at the awards evening for the City of Plymouth SA annual swim meet, at the Civic Centre in Plymouth.
All three boys had won the BAGCAT (British age group categories) in their age group at the swim meet which was held at Central Park Pools, Plymouth. Nathan winning the 11 year old boys age group, Charlie 12 years and Will the 13 year old boys.
The trophies were presented by the Lord Mayor of Plymouth. Chloe Barrow, who did not attend, won the girls 12 year old BAGCATS.
