KELLY College swimmers travelled to Millfield School in Somerset at the weekend to compete in the first stage of the ASASWR Age Group Championships. Sixteen swimmers from Kelly College looked to race against the best swimmers from across the South West Region. A superb team effort saw Kelly swimmers set 32 personal best times, 14 final swims, six medals, three Kelly College Age Group records and one new national qualifying time. Rebecca Carpenter, aged 11, had an exceptional weekend, becoming regional champion in the girls' 200m breaststroke in a time of 2 minutes 58.95 seconds, as well as taking silver in both the 200m IM and 100m butterfly. Ben Staig became regional champion in the 100m butterfly in a time of 60.28, and finished fourth in both the 200m breaststroke and 200m IM. Kelly's other medallists were Jack Hutchin and Jake Bentley, who both set PBs with Jack taking silver in the 200m butterfly and Jake Bentley bronze in the 200m IM. Tom Brew, aged 13, made the finals in both the 200m butterfly and 200m while 17 year-old Louis Gautier in the 100m freestyle achieved his second NQTime of the season, posting a time of 54.07. Other swimmers representing Kelly Swimming and setting some great PBs were Honor Kingsley Smith, Cara Layden, Georgia Martin, Victoria Moore, Taku Chaza, Jacob Newcombe, Guy Purbrick, Harry Turner, Sasha Wavre, David Colley and Harry Hathaway.
