KELLY College Swim Squad had 12 relay teams qualify for the 56th English Schools Swimming Association National Swimming Championships 2013 held this year at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre.

The squad came home with 3 second and 3 third places.

Kelly College junior girls (11 to 13 age group) of Jemma Layden, Georgia Martin, Sian Temple and Cara Layden gained silver in the 4 x 50m freestyle team event. The junior boys then won bronze in the 4 x 50m medley team with Tom Harrison, Taku Chaza, Nathan Linden and Harry Turner. Tom Brew stepped in to join Taku, Nathan and Harry to win another bronze in the freestyle team.

In the intermediate teams (14 and 15 years age group), the girls freestyle team of Emily Cutler, Nina Giudici, Chloe Barrow and Leah Picillo won bronze and in the medley team, Beth Watmore joined Emily, Chloe and Leah to take a superb silver. The boys intermediate team of Toby Stanyer, Will Luckham-Down, Ben Staig and Robbie Nielsen struck bronze in the medley team, but were disqualified in the free team of Ben, Will, Robbie and Jake Bentley.

The senior teams (16 to18 age group) all made finals, but were outside the medals, the girls team of Polly White, Ellie Paddon, Natasha-Lin Low and Milly Furneaux were eighth in the freestyle team and seventh in the medley team.

The senior boys medley team of Louis Gautier, Laker Wong, Harry Hathaway and Dave Colley placed sixth and then were joined by Tom McLagan for the free team along with Louis, Harry and Dave where they recorded a great swim to be equal fourth.

There were some great personal best times from the swimmers and their director of swimming, Robin Brew said: 'I was delighted with each and every swimmer's performance at the National Schools Championships. The team spirit and determination was amongst the very best I have seen ever. The swimmers were committed and worked so hard for each other and the College. They did themselves and Kelly College proud.'
