AT YELVERTON Golf Club the ladies' first match of the season against the men's veterans was played on March 17 in glorious springtime weather.

It is always an enjoyable social occasion for members, bringing the ladies and the veterans together,  finishing with a meal in the club house,  and the presentation of the trophy for the winning side.

 The format is a match play competition comprising of 12 ladies and 12 veterans — two ladies against two vets in each team.

As usual the ladies tried hard to beat the vets, but alas for them this was not to be! The final score was five to one to the veterans. 

After the meal, the ladies' captain Angela Read presented the trophy to the men's veterans' captain Alan Hoskin.

Since the inception of this match in 2006, the ladies have only succeeded in winning once and halving once!

The idea behind the annual match was the then men's veterans' captain Tony Rushbrooke and  ladies' captain Christine Longden with the kind donation of the trophy by David Jeremiah.  

Members took a moment to remember Tony who died earlier this year and is sadly missed.
