JANET Hopkinson, from Tavistock Triathlon Club, took part in the first of five challenges on April 28 to celebrate her 50th year and raise money for two cancer charities.

The Volcano Triathlon, a 1.5km swim, 40km bike and 10km run, was Janet’s first open water swim and standard distance triathlon, she was delighted to complete in 3 hours 46 minutes 35 seconds in the warmer climate of Lanzarote.

Janet has come a long way since joining the club as she was only able to swim 25 metres from the deep end to the shallow end when she first  joined the original Tavistock Triathlon Club.
