ONE of the most scenic trail runs in the South West has opened its entries this year and will benefit a Plymouth families trust. Plymouth Harriers' Six Moor Miles race being held on Sunday, July 27 will donate proceeds to The Archie Lincoln Trust. The race, at Yelverton, north of Plymouth, has been attracting runners from the South West for several years, whatever the weather. Six Moor Miles has built up a reputation as a well-run event which attracts runners who love an off-road challenge, but one that is also well within the range of those new to trail running as a good non-extreme introduction. There is no more beautiful scenery in the South West than Dartmoor and this race is on the lower slopes of the moor, giving runners relatively forgiving terrain. There are no severe hills but there are some slopes which those wanting a challenge will appreciate. Underfoot there are stony paths, springy turf and occasional boulders through classic moorland with moss encrusted twisted trees, rabbit holes and Dartmoor ponies and cattle for company. Coupled with Plymouth Harriers hospitality to include refreshments, home-made cakes, there is the added feel-good factor of running for a good cause. The Archie Lincoln Trust was set up to provide practical support to parents who lose a child through premature birth. They provide financial support to enable parents to make choices and decisions that help ease their grief at a devastating time. They also aim to fund vital neonatal equipment and to support education of children.
