OKEHAMPTON College Year 11 student Naomi Jackson, who was recently selected to represent England Schools at international level, flew to Guernsey with the England team to compete in the Senior Schools International Table Tennis Championships.

Held over three days from the long weekend of June 22-24. Guernsey was the host nation for this year's championships for both boys and girls in under 18, U16 and U14 age groups.

Teams from England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man all took part. Following an intense two days play on Friday and Saturday, Naomi with her England team mate Lois Peake from West Sussex, won the team bronze medal for England taking third place overall with both girls putting in commendable performances.

Sunday saw Naomi put in a superb display in the girls' U16s individual singles event collecting another bronze medal just losing out in the semi-final to Hong Kong international Yuki Wat who is currently at school in England.

This was Naomi's first international tournament and although very challenging she said she thoroughly enjoyed it and has learnt much from the experience. She now aims to achieve a place in the England team at under 18 level for next year's championship in the Isle of Man.
