KELLY College had two swimmers competing at the British Disability Open International at Ponds Forge ISC, Sheffield.

The event doubled up as the trials for the World Disability Championships, to be held later this year in Canada.

Paralympian Hannah Russell recorded some impressive times, claiming gold in her main event, the 400m freestyle — one in which she holds the current world record and a London 2012 Paralympics silver medal, in 4 minutes 22.51 seconds and also achieved the qualifying time for the World Championships. In the 50m freestyle, Hannah broke the 28 second barrier for the first time, recording a new British record of 27.91. Hannah gained four World Championship qualifying times and it has just been announced that Hannah has been selected to represent Great Britain later in the year.

Kelly College also had Mikey Jones competing at the international meet. After being reclassified to an S7 from an S8, Mikey achieved six personal best times in his eight races. His biggest personal best came in the 400m freestyle, where he knocked 6.05 seconds off his time, recording 5.00.21.

Everyone at Kelly College congratulate both swimmers on their excellent performances.
