WITH only three men available and facing second in the Tavistock Snooker League table West Devon A, the signs did not look good for Tavy A.
Dolan, however, started to make the most of a bad job with one of his ‘trademark’ robust performances as he took out West Devon’s Lawrence.
What followed was nothing short of an inspirational display from Tavy A’s Mark Evans as he proceeded to inflict the rarest of defeats on arguably the league’s top player Kevin Rich. With controlled breaks of 31 and 21 it was Evans all the way as he secured a second frame for Tavy.
However a ‘fairy tale’ win for three man Tavy A was never to be as West Devon’s Brookes proved, as expected, to be far too powerful for Tavy A’s Lyall and took the frame and the match 3-2 for West Devon A. Given the situation, Tavy A would certainly have taken this result at the start of the game.
Golf A moved fluently up the table to occupy third spot with a solid 4-1 win over struggling West Devon D.
Ruth, Turnbull and Whitley had no problems what so ever in dispatching West Devon D’s Decieco, Shrimpton (Snr) and Williams to give Golf A an unassailable 3-0 lead.
Murton however made sure Golf A did not have it all their own way as he got the better of Doidge in a low scoring ‘black ball’ finish to save some of West Devon’s blushes.
Normal service then resumed with a convincing win for this year’s surprise package, Pope, as he got the better of the dangerous Shrimpton (junior), with a more than respectable scoreline.
First into the fray was Mckechnie (junior) for the Conservative Z’s pitted against Davies of Conservative C, in a tense and far from easy match for either player. Both players jockeyed for pole position, eventually McKechnie just gained the upper hand despite a 21 break from Davies and finally took the frame in a lengthy but entertaining match.
Next to the table was Hackney in his debut match this season for Con Z who appearing slightly ring-rusty and was easily overwhelmed by an on form Jago. Davey for Con C lost by the smallest margin to Wright in another tight frame that could have gone either way.
Mayors performed his usual magic for Con Z and racked up a solid 77 points including a 20 break against a slightly overwhelmed Bellamy. Hodge of the Z’s failed to get to grips with Con C’s Bassett who gave his opponent little or no chance to get into the game.
