Caradon ladies firsts 2

FOLLOWING their their promotion from Trelawney One this hockey match was a tough draw against Caradon firsts.

The game began in earnest with strong play from both teams. The Caradon forward line quickly put pressure on the Tavistock defence of Colston, Mills-Hicks, Evans and Martin with a quick break.

A free hit to Caradon inside the Tavistock 23 metre line saw Caradon put the ball into the net but it was disallowed due to the ball not travelling five metres before entering the attacking D.

Tavistock were quickly on the counter attack which saw some smooth connecting passes through midfielders Patterson, Armstrong and Payne. Following a Caradon free hit captain Armstrong cut out the pass, dribbled and beat her Caradon defender to score making it 1-0 to Tavistock.

Caradon were sharp on the break and after a further 10 minutes of open play make it 1-1 before half time with a one-on-one against keeper Viggers and Caradon attacker Clare Poad.

The second half saw Caradon up the determination and pressure on Tavistock, but the home team responded and were awarded several penalty corners, which they failed to score.

Caradon were next on the scoreboard with a speedy break, several quick passes saw Julia Eldridge slice it past keeper Viggers.

With only five minutes left Tavistock regained possession and control with several goal attempts from attackers Law, Gasper and White. Following a ball in from Payne, Armstrong managed to slice the ball in on the reverse stick to bring the score back to 2-2.
