Okehampton 0
East Devon 3
THE sun eventually began to thaw the pitch, enabling this bottom of the table tussle to get underway.
Okehampton, with their first choice goalkeeper still injured. had Chris Luxton looking much at home between the sticks.
Centre backs Alex Osman and Rob Hall thwarted the East Devon attack, along with their fullbacks Simon Bourne on the left and debutant Caleb Bourne on the right. Good all round support from Joff Stephens and Jake Lloyd in midfield saw Okehampton’s attack penetrate their opponent’s D without making that much needed initial breakthrough. Hard work from the wingers Jack Watson and Josh Speak won consecutive penalty corners.
Centre forward Mark Parson, who was battered and clattered continually, outwitted the East Devon defence, but not unfortunately the goalkeeper who had little to do.
In the second half, despite hard work and good team play, Okehampton allowed themselves to be frustrated and East Devon won a decisive penalty corner with ten minutes to go. The deadlock was broken.
Oke tried to keep their heads up and stay calm but this became increasingly difficult and they conceded a second goal.
With only a few minutes remaining the high pressing defence was left exposed at the back for East Devon to score their third.
One positive outcome was the performance from right back Caleb Bourne.
Okehampton are now languishing in tenth place, one above the relegation zone.
