TWO hundred and forty year 1 school children took part in a multi-skill activity day, organised by Okehampton Community Recreation Association using their activity coaches and supported by local sports clubs and personalities.

The fun day was held at the site of what was previously Kelly Preparatory School, courtesy of Mount Kelly Enterprises and, much to everyone's delight, the weather was warm and sunny.

One of the organisers Mhairi McCall said: 'The morning was the busiest time with 180 children moving round nine different activities involving throwing, running, parachute games, racket skills, gymnastics, football and fencing. After a very welcome break for the coaches, 60 more children arrived for the afternoon session and the sound of young voices enjoying themselves could be heard again.

'This was the fourth multi-skill activity day of the school year. The aim is to improve childrens' balance, agility and co-ordination through fun activities and a separate day has been held for years 1, 2, 3 and 4.'
