TAVISTOCK Hire Centre faced league leaders Mainstone on a cold, wet muddy pitch in Plymouth.

The visitors broke the deadlock when Tom Scott played a superbly timed through ball for Des Newton to run around the keeper and put into an empty net.

Tavistock were now in control and the second came when a corner from Mark Wallace was headed goalwards by Dave Wilkinson but handled on the line by a Mainstone defender. Striker Dave Wilkinson stepped up to smash the ball home.

The second half started well for Mainstone as they tried to pressurise the visitors' defence but they held strong and were well marshalled by centre backs Rob Moloney and John Francis.

Mainstone could not break through and Tavistock increased their lead with 15 minutes remaining. Dave Wilkinson picked up the ball wide and placed a perfectly time cross to Sam Saunders who controlled well to fire into the bottom corner of the net.

The results puts Tavistock Hire Centre back in the hunt for automatic promotion.
