BERE Alston Trekkers (BATs) are delighted to be hosting their annual road race on Sunday, May 5.

The Bere Pen 10k, which forms part of the village carnival weekend, is a scenic three down, three up road run around the Bere Peninsular which passes along the beautiful River Tamar. The route starts in the village and winds its way down to Weir Quay. The first half of the run is a fast downhill making it easy for the runners to cover the ground in good time however, once runners reach the flat it is then up the hills before re-entering the village for a fast down hill to the finish.

There are prizes for the first lady and man in each age group and the first local, unaffiliated lady and man back and also six spot prizes.

All proceeds from the race are returned to the local community -this year the race will be raising money for 'Hugs for Henry.'

Henry is a local three year-old little boy who has a rare and deadly childhood cancer —neuroblastoma.

The condition has an 80% chance of relapse and there is no relapse protocol in the UK which means Henry must travel to America, to obtain the treatment he needs.

To help raise money club members will be dressing as super-heroes, in particular Batman.

Race director, Dotty King would also love to hear from anyone who may be able to marshal on the day.
