HAVING retired from competitive modern pentathlon last year, Olympic silver medallist Heather Fell admits she cannot wait to pull on the Team GB colours again – this time as Chef de Mission at this month's European Youth Olympic Festival.

Fell leads a 44-strong team who will head to the Georgian capital of Tbilisi for the multi-sport event from July 26 to August 1.

The event will see 46 different European nations in action across nine sports, with the competition representing the first step for many on their road to the Olympics.

Fell readily admits she would have loved the chance to compete in her younger days had the option been available – previous alumni include double Olympic swimming champion Rebecca Adlington and double Commonwealth Games champion gymnast Nile Wilson.

The former athlete does have experience of offering up her advice to competitors, however, having been a part of the BOA's Athlete's Commission since January 2013.

And with plenty of major competition experience under her belt, including European gold and World and Olympic silver – the latter in Beijing in 2008 – Fell believes she is well equipped to help the young stars to success in Georgia.

'I am massively looking forward to getting out for Tbilisi. It's a huge honour to be Chef de Mission,' she said.
