OKEHAMPTON Running Club runners found it tough going at the Bude Lifeboat Race with the summer heat.

Last Wednesday the lifeboat run was held on a beautiful sunny evening and 16 ORC runners took part.

The challenging six mile course takes in some fantastic scenery and the family atmosphere brings competitors back year after year. Geoff Hill led the runners out and held the lead for a significant part of the course before eventually finishing tenth in a time of 37.28. This was a great performance by Geoff considering he had completed the Ruby Run half marathon three days earlier. Mervyn Rice was the next ORC home, finishing in 44.35 to be third MV60.

First ORC lady home, having also completed the Ruby Run, was Jo Turner in a time of 47.32. Other ORC times were John Binns in 46.41, Karen Vallance in 49.20, Mike Westland in 49.35, Jackie Dawes in 50.54, Tracey Mills in 54.23, Phil Turner in 58.11, Deborah Cunningham in 58.13, Ruth Bushell in 58.34, Jane Richardson in 1.01.35, Jessica Corcoran in 1.05.01, Janet White in 1.05.35, Kerry Morashti in 1.05.38 and Claire Sprague in 1.08.48.
