THE NEWLY installed Yelverton Golf Club ladies' captain, Glenda Thompson .

Fellow members gathered round the starters hut and the first tee for warming drinks and to watch the new captain drive the first hole. Glenda was assisted by her husband Andy who served many large glasses to warm the spirits.

It is a club traditioin for the new ladies captain to wear a creative hat designed by the past captain. Glenda, wearing a creation made by Teresa Holt. managed to keep smiling and focused even while hitting the ball — no mean feat as she probably couldn't see very much!

The ladies then played  a three ball better ball 13 holes.

The winners were Sue Rumbold, Sheila Brookbank and Sally Arscott with 53 points and the runners-up Di Friend, Sue Pearman and Claire Rushbrook on 51.

Yelverton Golf Club ladies captain Glenda Thompson and mens veterans' captain Jack Bovingdon hosted the first of the two matches that the ladies play against the men's vets. 

This is a fun competition for a small, bronze golf bag and clubs trophy donated by David Jeremiah.

A slight change of format this year resulted in five close matches. 

Everybody enjoyed the foursomes game, however there still needs to be a little more 'tweaking' to ensure that the ladies can win a few matches!

The result was  four and a half to the men, half to the ladies.

Mair Preston-Jones and Verna Isaac who won their first round of the Daily Mail Foursomes by one up. They played at home against Staddon Heights on Monday, March 18.
