ONE of the most enjoyable events at Tavistock Golf Club is the ladies' Guest Day — this year was no exception and the glorious weather was an added bonus. The format was changed to a four ball better ball from a greensomes competition, which proved to be popular with a bigger field than last year. Gilly Jarvis and her guest Barbara Perriton from Staddon took the honours scoring 46 points on countback from Nicky Gawman and guest Fiona Parlong and Bridget Luckham and her guest Pat Rendall. Another popular competition is the men veterans' six clubs and a putter for the George Bailey Trophy. Veterans' captain Ken Cole was first in division one with 71pts on countback from Ken Kendall and Paul Congo. Chris Henderson scored a superb 64pts to top division two and win the trophy; second was Ian Bellan with 66pts and third with 67pts was John Thewlis. There was excellent scoring in the men's N Chinn Stableford. Ken Cole, once again, was first in division one with 41pts on count back from Jack Philpotts and Ed Smith. Harry Hopcroft in division two had 38pts on count back Rob Score and Will Notley. However, the winner of the day was Steve Andrews in division three who had 49pts; second Kevin Lethbridge 43pts and third Dan Cooper with 40pts. This year's Ladies' Foursomes Cup was won by Jayne Wright and partner Pat Taylor with a nett 70.5; runners up were Janet Kiely and Donna Gage with nett 73.
