TRENA Brock from Hatherleigh and her son Ryan have had an excellent year in long distance horse riding.
Okehampton College student Ryan and his grey Arab horse Kairie was invited to ride for the South West equine endurance team in Oxford — one of only 14 riders where he helped the team to win the inter regional championships. At this ride he also won the junior rider trophy and one for best novice at 32km from 42 riders — most of whom were adults. At the South West annual awards Ryan, aged 13, was awarded five runners up rosettes and a first in the Blue Zephyr Memorial trophy for the novice junior gaining the most points at all EGB rides.
At Daventry Ryan won two third prize rosettes — one for the horse and junior rider in their first year of competition by gaining the most points in all rides and another for horse and rider gaining most points in all rides of 45kms or less.
When Ryan is not riding he is a crew member for his mum Trena on race rides.
Trena and her grey Arab horse Kashmir, also rode for the South West team at Oxford.
In the 50miles race ride she came ninth out of 15 competitors while in a 60 mile race in Cambridge she was third.
At the South West annual awards Trena was awarded runners up rosette for the horse and rider gaining the most points in race rides in their first season.
