TWENTY one swimmers from Tavistock Swimming Club competed in the annual Devon Sprints Gala at the Plymouth Life Centre, which had over 240 swimmers of ages ranging from nine upwards. The level of their performance was outstanding, with a total of 72 personal bests from the 81 swims with Thanae Garland-Tsirka who shattered her previous best backstroke time by 12.41 seconds. Alex Francis (15) was the most successful gaining medals in all his events (two silver and two bronze), followed by Ieuan Noakes (12) and Beth Thompson (13) who both achieved two bronze medals each, and Harriet Edwards (17) and Emily France a bronze. There was also success for Alfie Morgan (10), who achieved an outstanding gold medal in his backstroke and which, with his other swims, gave him an overall second place within the competition for his age group. The squad achieved 40 top ten places, which for the U15s resulted in an overall fourth position for both Emily France and Ieuan Noakes, and an overall fifth for both Samuel Bates and Beth Thompson in their respective age groups. The swimmers competing were: Gemma Arundel, Olivia Bates, Sam Bates, Callum Burden, Harriet Edwards, Emily France, Alex Francis, Amber Francis, Thanae Garland-Tsirka, Ryan Lillyman, Ellena McCall, Laura Meredith, Alfie Morgan, Daisy Morgan, Ieuan Noakes, Elena Prior, Lucie Prior, Sarah Teague, Beth Thompson, Morgan Turnock and Maddie Wall Overall the momentum of development in the club within all age groups was truly on show at the Life Centre, and the club looks forward to future competitions knowing more than ever that it has the ability to participate strongly at county and national level.
