ST Andrew's School, Buckland Monachorum, is celebrating a year of sporting success after winning several festivals and tournaments. The school's hockey team went forward to represent West Devon in hockey and netball in the Devon Winter Games held at Exeter University. The schools' A and B cricket teams, who were first and second in the Tavistock Area Cricket tournament, went on and qualify to win the Dartmoor Cup held at Hatherleigh Cricket Club. Their teams also represented the school at Devon Athletics held at Brickfields in June. St Andrew's also came first in the TALC Swimming Gala and first on football, hockey and athletics and second in netball, and third in tag rugby. Following a win at the Tavistock Tri Golf Festival, the school qualified to represent West Devon in the Devon Summer Games held in Plymouth. Deputy headteacher and PE co-ordinator Justin Jones said: 'Teams have played exceptionally well in all events across the year. 'We have faced some tough opposition and our teams have demonstrated an incredibly determined attitude throughout. 'I'm delighted at our success in sports, which has stemmed from the children's enthusiasm and love of sport and physical education, which we place a huge emphasis on in school. We're really proud of the children." In addition to a wide range of traditional sports, several new sports have been introduced, including cycle-X, ultimate frisbee, table tennis and street dance.
