MEMBERS of Yelverton Bowling Club made the most of the fine weather to combine two annual events — the Gus Dyer Triples and Captain's Day on September 20. Club captain Shirley Smale and Maurice Hellier, organiser of the Gus Dyer triples, brought together 27 members to take part and with more than 35 for lunch this was a busy and enjoyable day for all involved. The winners of the Gus Dyer Trophy were Mike Brain, Joan Smith and Dennis Collett. As the season draws to an end for Yelverton Bowling Club, a finals competition was held. The Jeanne Holloway Plate is a pairs match, the result being the best of 21 ends. In a closely fought match watched by members including Jeanne Holloway, patron of the competition, the winning team of Phyllis Hellier and Christine Walkling took the trophy from runners-up Joan Price and Heather Glassbrook by 20 points to 17.
