GOOD weather blessed the Tamar and Tavy Gig Club Regatta of 2012 at the weekend.

The West Devon gig club hosted Salcombe, Rame and Cothele Quay and all enjoyed an exciting afternoon's racing.

A spring tide, strong winds and choppy waters, demanded much for those at the helm as well as the rowers.  The Brunel endurance race from Weir Quay to the Brunel Bridge at Saltash had seven entrants.  A handicap system for the staggered start made the six mile event a real challenge.  Salcombe won, followed by Cothele Quay and the Tamar and Tavy Ladies.

The T and T men's crew came fourth having made up two places - a superb effort! Three gigs went out for the juniors' race - Cothele Quay came first and third and our youngsters came in second.

The super vets' race was won by Cothele Quay.

The Barbarians race (foreshortened because of the weather) with mixed crews of mixed ages from all clubs represented saw the crew of Penlee Point the victors. After the races T and T chair Tricia Stewart thanked everyone who had taken part and the awards were presented by David Clarke.

All funds raised at the event will not only be used to both maintain the gigs Tamar, Ginette and Belinda O'Flynn and their associated equipment but also for the club's future development.
