TAVISTOCK Golf Club juniors had a great start to their golfing season.
In the adult/junior Stableford Hilary Picton and junior Emmy Hoyte scored 40 points in division one, second were Alan Gawman and junior Bridie Sampson with 37 pts.
In division two were the father and son team Marc and Jamie Ninnis with an excellent 45pts — scoring nine points on the last two holes!
Topping division one in the junior Stableford Emmy and Bridie, once again, had an excellent game with Emmie scoring 42pts and Bridie 39pts with Daniel Poole not far behind with 38pts.
In division two (played over nine holes) Alaister Spicer had 16 pts, second was Jamie Ninnis also with 16 pts and third Arun Ninnis 13pts.
In division three Jemma Ninnis had 22 pts.
Strong winds resulted in reductions only in the ladies Withington Bowl competition.
In division one Maggie Hillman had a nett 78 with Bridget Luckham second with a nett 80 on countback from Elaine Cooper. Winner of the bowl was Ann Dawson in division two with an excellent score of nett 71, runner up was Helen Phipps with nett 72.
The monthly Stableford was played with the Warren Crocus.
In division one Bridget Luckham had 38pts with Fran Horton in second place with 35pts on countback from Liz Lyndon.
Sybil Cole in divison two scored 35 pts on countback from Gloria Westhead and Gail Read.
First in division three was Sam Avens with 42 pts, second Ann Dawson 36pts with junior Emmy Hoyte with 35pts.
Bridget, Fran, Sam and Ann will represent Tavistock in the Warren Crocus at Dawlish Warren to be held later in the year.
In Coronation Foursomes the winning pair of Sam Avens and Hilary Picton who scored 36pts will represent the club in the South of England regional finals. Runners up were Bridget Luckham and Lyn Swift with 35pts.
Scoring was close in the mens Artisan Bowl. Andy Cunningham in division one had 38pts, second Nick Mier with 37pts, third Rich Potts 35 pts.
First in division two Martin Channon 38 pts, second Richard Brade with 37pts on countback from Dave Symons and Rob Staniland. With 38pts Mike Sweeney was first in division three, second Richard Burrows 37pts and, in third place, was junior Daniel Poole with 36 pts. Mike won the Artisans Bowl with the best back nine.
