NEWCOMERS to the Tavistock Snooker league, the Golf Club, notched up their first win of the season against Conservative Z in a confident display that showcased the talent within the team and showed their future potential.
Symons for Con Zs got off to a less than convincing start and Finnigan took full advantage to put Golf one up. Whitley continued the onslaught with a fine display against Mayors who despite his best efforts, failed to contain a rampant Whitley. It took a majestic performance from Fitzsimmons to get Con Z back on track against a somewhat bemused Pope, caught in the headlights against Fitzsimmons’ superior potting. McKechnie for Con Z narrowly failed to capitalise on Fitzsimmons’ hard work against a steady and confident Wylie in a tense black ball frame. The game was lost for the Con Z but at 3-1 Jankowski played his best game of the season so far against the more than capable Ruth to enable the Con Z to retain some semblance of credibility.
Conservative B took over top spot in the league with a 4-1 win at West Devon B.
Ewings for Con B made a 22 break and an 18 clearance, which proved too much for his opponent Toland. Moloney kept up his good work with a win over West Devon’s skipper Gilchrist, a 20 break and a generous scattering of fouls from the latter aided his cause.
The league’s top ranked, unbeaten player, Hoare, beat Evans (junior) to pull one back for West Devon B.
Dolan for the Con B then toughed it out in protracted frame to edge out West Devon’s Horrell, to make the match safe for his team.
John Rich made him fight all the way but it was the Con B’s Dent who ultimately came out on top, a fluky pink ball not exactly doing Rich any favours in his quest.
Four points on the night gave Conservative B top spot in the league.
