THIS week Yelverton Golf Club played in the first of the semi-finals of the Parker Trophy, a county scratch foursomes matchplay competition.

The venue was Teignmouth Golf Club, where the views were breathtaking and only matched by the standard of golf on display by two extremely good teams from Exeter and Yelverton.

Yelverton’s first match fielded the unbeaten pairing of Dan Rosevear and Matt Cooper. Their opponents, T Woodhouse and T Partridge won on the 16th green 3 and 2. Yelverton’s Des Carty and Alex Kippen’s match was to follow against J Reed and S House. The Yelverton pair were five up at one stage and went on to win 4 and 3.

Captain Ryan Acres and Mark Harrington were the last pair to compete for Yelverton against Exeter’s J Pope and N Woolfrey. In a highly competitive match as the game progressed Yelverton began to pull away and they consolidated their win by 4 and 3 and a place in the Parker Trophy Finals on Sept 16.

There were 150 entrants in the Lumby Cup competition at Yelverton Golf Club. Scoring in this Stableford was high with nearly a third of the field equal or bettering the standard scratch score for the course. The winner was Phil Pond who had an excellent game with only 25 putts for the round and two on both the sixth and 12th holes.
