THIS is the first year that Tavistock Golf Club men’s veteran’s played home and away matches with Thurlestone Golf Club.
To add an extra competitive edge it was agreed to play for a trophy which was donated by the National Coastwatch Institute.
In the home match Tavistock won four and a half to one and a half and, in the away match, gained a narrow overall victory six and a half to five and a half to become the first winners of the Moor to Sea Trophy, sponsored by MansbridgeBalment.
Their sponsorship and the generosity of the two veterans’ sections enabled a donation to be made to NCI which was accepted by NCI manager Robin Gay.
The men’s veterans Ken Kendall Trophy was won by Ian Rose with an excellent net 64; runners up were John Berry with net 68 on count back from David Antony.
In the Grandmothers’ Cup first in division one was Dawn Phillott with net 72; second Wendy George net 73 on count back from Maggie Hillman and Fran Horton. Helen Phipps had a net 72 in division two; second June Kendall net 75 and third Anne Dawson with a net 77. The winner of the cup was Dawn Phillott and runner up was Fran Horton.
