RAIN and strong winds have been ‘the norm” for the past few weeks for ladies day at Tavistock Golf Club. Then the sun shone and temperatures soared for the ladies’ Stableford and Alice Rose Bowl.
In division one Shirley Trevena scored 43 points, second Dawn Dennis 40pts and in third place Bridget Luckham 37pts. Top of division two with 37pts was June Kendall, second Sue Stewart, 34pts, and third Ginny Samborne 33pts. Janet Kiely was first in division three with 36pts, second with 32pts was Helena Mitchell on count back from Sue Pratley. The winner of the Alice Rose Bowl was Shirley Trevena.
In the men’s George Kitley Salver Philip Riley topped division one with 40pts to win the Salver. He was closely followed by Will Caulfied with 39pts; third was Timothy Caulfield with 36pts on count back from Jack Philpotts and Tom Dodd.
First in division two was Jas Singh on 36pts, second Marc Ninnis, 35pts, on count back from Richard Rowe.
In the Kiely Cup the top pair, with 75pts, were Mike Sutcliffe and Mark Taylor on count back from Callum Watkin and Alan Gawman. Third were Jim Whitbread and Martyn Moon with 71pts on count back from Steve Fowler and Barry Milligan and Chris Gawman and Nick Mier.
Tavistock Golf Club lady veterans played the qualifying round for the Devon County Veterans’ Lady Golf Association Killeard Leavy Trophy. The winners were Jill Hill and Myra Sussex with 33pts; runners up with 32 pts Norma Thewlis and June Kendall. The final will be played at Tavistock in the DCLVLGA Foursomes in September.
Junior George Bumford had a great round in the Junior H L Smith Trophy competition winning the trophy with the excellent score of nett 64 cutting his handicap from 20 to 18.
