ONE of the popular ladies’ events at Tavistock Golf Club is the Lady Captain’s Prize Day.  This year was no exception with 57 ladies playing on a course that was, as usual,  in excellent condition. 

Belinda McSherry topped division one with 36 points; second was Tracey Sutcliffe with 35pts on count back from Hilary Picton.  In division two first was Jenny Kay with 36pts, second Gail Reed 35pts and third Marilyn Allen 34pts.  In division three Sue Eastwood was first with 37pts; second Norma Thewlis 36pts and third with 34pts  Pat Taylor.  Nearest the pin on the 7th, Hilary Picton;  nearest the pin in two on the 14th, Helen Heywood.   

The lady veterans played for the their 125 Cup which was won this year by Val Facey with an excellent 42pts with the runner up Pat Taylor with 37pts. 

In the qualifying round of the Express and Echo Shirley Trevena and Pat Wylie took the honours with 35pts; runners up with 34pts were Sarah Hanson and Tracey Sutcliffe.  Shirley and Pat will represent the club in the final to be held at Exeter in September. 

In the men’s Whitsun Bowl Will Caulfield in division one scored nett 67; second, Damien Dee net 70 on count back from Jonathan Behennah. In division two with a nett 66 to take the trophy was Michael Allen; second Tony Cooper nett 68 and third Paul Drake nett 69.

Winner of the men veteran’s Kulri Trophy was Shaun Kiely with 44pts and runner up Brian Wright with 42pts.
