YELVERTON Golf Club’s delayed club championship was played over a weekend in glorious and unusually benign conditions, with 160 golfers competing for both the scratch and handicap trophies.

The scratch competition came down to two players, plus one golfer Dan Rosevear and scratch golfer Ryan Acres. In a tussle that went all the way, birdies we exchanged on the 17th and 18th holes, resulting in a sudden death playoff.

The first extra hole was halved, so back to the tee they went. Ryan Acres then put his tee shot to 15 feet from the pin and Dan Rosevear left his ball some five feet short of the green and it seemed Ryan would be victorious. Dan then proceeded to hole his putt from off the green for a two and Ryan missed his putt on the right — making Dan Rosevear scratch champion for 2016.

In the handicap event, Mark Harrington shot an excellent nett 66 on the Saturday and finished with a creditable combined nett total of 136 to win by two from Lee Lawson, who shot two impressive nett 69s.
