MORE than 200 members and guests attended Tavistock Golf Club’s Gala Dinner to celebrate the club’s 125th anniversary.

President  Dennis Greening welcomed guests of honour the Mayor of Tavistock Sue Bailey, Michael Jewell, president of Devon County Golf Union, and Charles Mudge, chairman of the Whitchurch Down Commoners.

‘Unfortunately.’ he said ‘The Duke of Bedford, patron of the club, regretted that he was unable attend but he sent his very best wishes for the continuing success of the club.’

The president also said that he was very impressed with the marquee constructed over the putting green especially for the dinner.

‘On behalf of all members  I would like to thank the 125 committee and their chairman John Harding for their hard work and planning over the months and a special thanks to the catering staff for producing and serving such an excellent dinner.’

A large anniversary cake had been especially made and was cut by the lady captain Julie Harding who expressed her delight that so many members had come to celebrate this special event.  A successful finale to a season of events to mark another landmark in the club’s long history.
