EVEN though there were heavy showers there were sighs of relief that Tavistock Golf club ladies first open of the year went off successfully.
The four ball better ball team event always attracts many players from other clubs but the first three places were won by Tavistock.
Elaine Cooper, Val White, Donna Gage and Cheryl Hall were the winning team with 90 points, closely followed by Sue Coles, Janet Kiely, Bridget Luckham and Lyn Swift 89pts. In third place with 87 pts were Maggie Hillman, Bev Ruth, Kayleigh Cann and Caroline Johns on count back from the Okehampton team Carol Skrzypczak, Susan Williams, Elaine Marwood and Maggie Caws.
The Staddon Heights team, Jo Hood, Janet Leach, Janet Gammon and Linda Smith, also with 87pts were the best visitor team not in the prizes.
In the ladies’ Medal and Rickard Bowl Wendy George topped division one with net 75, second Kayleigh Cann net 77 and third was Donna Gage with net 78 on count back from Sarah Hanson and Bev Ruth.
In division two Marion Stenhouse had an excellent net 67 to win the Rickard Bowl, second in the division Sue Pratley scored net 72 and third Myra Sussex net 73.
In the men’s Stableford and Lombard qualifier Jim Whitbread was first in division one with 36pts on countback from Graham Horton. Third was David Axell 35 pts on countback from David Johns.
With 37pts Chris Johns was first in division two with 37pts, second Steve Fowler 36 pts, third Keith Stenhouse 35pts on count back from Jerry Bawden. In division three Lewis Reid had 37pts, second Dave Stratton 32 pts on count back from Paul Mace.
There was close scoring in the Harvey Frost Trophy but Rob and Val Jarman had 39pts to win the day closely followed by Graham and Cheryl Hall with 38pts. George and Nicky Gawman were third with 37pts on count back from Mike Apps and Helen Heywood.
