TAVISTOCK Golf Club’s Adam Bridgewater held off a strong challenge from Woodbury’s Peter Lawrence to win the South West Mid Amateur title at Stover Golf Club.

The two players were tied after 36 holes and so it went to a playoff with Bridgewater claiming the title by getting it up and down from the green side trap to make a par after Lawrence had gone long at the difficult 18 hole.

Adam put the finishing touches to a stellar season by claiming the Devon Order of Merit title, a season long event with points awarded to the top performers; along the way he collected the Wish Slater Salver at the Devon Amateur and The Kashmir cup at Royal North Devon.

The Devon ace who has played for the county for more than 16 years and is closing in on 200 caps, He said he was ‘chuffed to bits’ with his season.

’It’s nice to see all the hard work I have put in is paying off, I have had great support from my professional Glenn Richards. He gave me a putting tip at the start of the year and it has worked wonders.’

’My new goals are to get to the magic 200 cap mark and in doing so help a young Devon team to progress over the next couple of years.’
