TAVISTOCK Golf Club’s annual captain’s charity day attracted 136 golfers to take part this year.
Club captain Tony Cooper said: ‘I have been a member for over 30 years and though there have been changes over this period, one thing that is constant is the generosity of its members. Our charities this year are The Primrose Trust, Marie Curie Cancer Care and the Tavistock Memory Cafe. To date, we have raised well over £5,000.’
The overall winners of the day were the men’s team of Nick Mier and Rich Potts with 46 points. The best mixed pair with 41pts were Graham and Fran Horton. The best ladies pair were June Kendall and Norma Thewlis with 34pts.
Nearest the pin on the fourth was Brian Goble, on the seventh was John Thewlis and on the 19th was Nick Mier. Sally Hills won the ladies’ nearest the pin on the 14th and Kenny Mackenzie won ‘Beat the Pro’ on the fourth.
Another popular annual event is the president’s day which this year attracted a field of 160 players. Scoring was tight at the top of the table but first with 42pts was Will Notley. Josh Hosking was second with 41pts on count back from Arun Caines, Mark Taylor and Robert Beveridge. The winning lady was Tracey Sutcliffe on 37pts, Bridget Luckham finished second on 35 pts and third was Kayleigh Cann with 34 points.
In the men’s Freeman Cup first in division one was James Macfarlane with net 69 on count back from Martyn Moon and third was Nigel Roberts with 70 points. Richard Rowe was first in division two with net 68, second Alan Greening net 69 and third Will Nottley net 70.
In the ladies’ closed meeting Nicky Gawman came first with net 72 on countback from Jane Hoskin. Third was Bridget Luckham with net 73. In division two Sue Eastwood scored a net 74, second was Hazel Cash net 77 and Carolyn Crawford was third with net 78.
This year’s Foursome Cup was won by Sue Eastwood and Wendy George with a net 74.5 on count back from Ginny Samborne and Myra Sussex.
