THE new year at Tavistock Golf Club got underway with a perfect start at the New Year's day four ball better ball.

Twenty one teams played more than 16 holes with the winning team of Andy Down, Marc Ninnis, Ian Nye and Tommy Rawlinson scoring 77pts.  Following  behind were Adam Bridgewater, Ian Crichton, Paul Crump and Mark Taylor with 76pts on countback from Mike Apps, Mike Beveridge, Richard Burrows and Mike Thrasher.  In fourth place with 75pts were Alan Gawman. Mike Henderson, Richard Smith and Will Stenhouse.

Eleven brave ladies defied the elements and play in the January Stableford.  Belinda McSherry scored a creditable 33pts; second was Liz Lyndon with 29pts on countback from Sally Hills. 

The novices section (those with a handicap of 29+) had their first Stableford of the year.  First was Luis Inacio with 19pts, Tom Wood with 18pts was second and, in third place, Callam Boon with 16pts.
